GOLF COMPETITIONS MEDAL ROUND SCORES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following are the best cards for a medal round played on the Taratahi links on Saturday:-—A. R. George 80, 5, 75; R. Lawrence 82, 7, 75. In a game for the Hill and Hughes Buttons the holders (Fisher and Hughes) lost to Steel and Forbes 3 and I. SCHOOL HOCKEY DALEFIELD DEFEAT HATAITAI. The annual fixture between the Dalefield school boys and Hataitai school played on the Carrington Park, Carterton, on Saturday, resulted in a win for the home team by 8 goals to 3. The visitors showed good stick work but were no match for Dalefield. Mr S. Knutson was referee. BASKETBALL MATCH WIN FOR DALEFIELD. The annual basketball match between the Dalefield school girls and Hataitai school girls played at Dalefield on Saturday afternoon, ended in a win, after a very good game, for the Dalefield girls by 20 goals to 16. Miss Joyce Nielsen controlled the game. This was the first occasion the Hataitai girls have been defeated. HATAITAI CHILDREN A PLEASANT OUTING. The visit of the Hataitai school children to Dalefield at the weekend provided a very pleasant outing for the city children, although the weather conditions were not of the best. The Hataitai children were the guests of families in the district and were given a royal time. They were accompanied by their sports master, Mr Brittain., and the secretary of the school committee and were given a very hearty welcome by the chairman of the school committee, Mr M. J. Parker, and his committee. Prior to leaving for home on Saturday afternoon the visitors were very hospitably entertained at afternoon tea. Mr Cook, secretary of the Hataitai school committee, said that words could not convey to the good people of Dalefield the pleasure they had received at their hands and they were all delighted to have made the trip. They would always remember the hospitality that had been extended to them. Mr Brittain also expressed his thanks, and the captains of both hockey and basketball teams also thanked the parents for the wonderful time that had been given them.

Mr S. Gallon spoke on behalf of the referees of both games, and the chairman of the school committee, Mr M. J. Parker, expressed the pleasure which the school committee and the residents generally obtained from these exchange of visits. If the visitors were pleased with their outing then he was sure the Dalefield people were doubly pleased. They would look forward to, the return visit to Hataitai. Cheers were exchanged as the visitors left for home. HOCKEY MATCH A DRAWN GAME. Carterton senior ladies played a match against Kia Toa on Carrington Park on Saturday. The game ended in a draw, 2 goals each. : BRIDE-TO-BE ENTERTAINED BY FRIENDS. About 30 friends and relatives of Miss Joyce Smith, daughter of Mr and Mrs George T. Smith, of Tyne Street, Carterton, gathered at Mrs’ C. E. White’s residence on Saturday and tendered her a “bathroom afternoon.” ’"Many useful presents were given to Miss Smith, whose marriage to Mr Clarry Cook will take place next week. Games were played and a very enjoyable time was spent. Miss Smith thanked those present for their gifts. Footballer Injured. During the progress of the Glad-stone-Carterton third grade match at Carterton on Saturday, Spooner, a Carterton boy, had a knee badlysprained and had to retire. P. and A. Ball. The time is drawing near for the annual ball of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society. A week from tonight the function will be held in the King's Theatre. Carterton. Every preparation is being made to make lhe ball eclipse all its predecessors and the supper, which is in the hands of a strong ladies’ committee, will be a feature in itself. Miniature Rifles. The Carterton miniature rifle team to fire against Martinborough at Martinborough tomorrow night is as follows: —R. Hawker. R. Porter. L. DeLacey, R. Taucher, G. Sewell, S. Dwane, H.
