Winter Racing Season Brought to Close

PADISHAH SCORES IMPRESSIVELY AT CHRISTCHURCH MANAWATU HUNT CUP GOES TO LADY CALLAGHAN (BY “CARBINE.”) Winter racing in New Zealand was brought to a close on Saturday when two hunt club meetings were staged. The Christchurch Hunt Club’s meeting at Riccarton which acts as a prelude to the Grand National gathering, was notable for the impressive display given by Padishah who carried top weight to victory in the Homeby Steeples. Aussie Ra ran well to account for the Longbeach Hurdles. At Manawatu, Lady Callaghan, who started as fourth favourite, romped home in the Manawatu Hunt Cup Steeples. Flying Acre, the ninth choice in the Open Handicap, went well to cross ahead of the others, and Aurora's Star came home in the Hack Cup.
