THE BUDGET
LIKELY TO BE PRESENTED BY PREMIER. IN ABSENCE OF FINANCE MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Delay in the departure from England of the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, is likely to result in the Budget being presented in the House of Representatives by the Prime Minister, Mr Savage, in his capacity as actingMinister of Finance. Mr Savage said last night that preparations for the Budget would be continued, and he hoped to be able to present it not later than the middle of August. There was no question, Mr Savage said, of a prolonged stay in England by Mr Nash. It was merely that the negotiations had not been completed in time for the Minister to catch the Queen Mary, and as a result he would have to wait for another suitable ship. In the circumstances, it was not yet possible to make any statement concerning the outcome of Mr Nash’s mission, the Prime Minister added. He repeated that a full statement would’ be released when negotiations were complete.
