RAISING THE SOUALUS
TASK TO BE COMPLETED IN A WEEK NO EVIDENCE OF SABOTAGE. STATEMENT BY MANAGER OF NAVY YARD. (Independent Cable Service.) NEW YORK, May 28. The task of raising the ill-fated submarine Squalus, with its 26 dead, is expected to be completed within a week. Sixty-three divers with the most modern equipment and giant pontoons have been assembled on the scene. The manager of the Portsmouth Navy Yard, Captain H. Greenlee, doubts earlier explanations of how the disaster occurred. He declared that what had been said about the induction valve was mere conjecture. Captain Amsden, acting commandant of the navy yard, in a formal statement, said: "There is no evidence at this time to substantiate reports oi carelessness or sabotage.” All but two of those rescued from the Squalus have now returned to duty.'
