> MEETING OF WAIRARAPA UNION.

MOVE TO RAISE FUNDS. (“Times-Age” Special). Mr H. A. McPhee, chairman, presided at a meeting of the management committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Union, held in Carterton last night, all members being present except Mr C. A. Gray (Carterton). Donations were received with thanks from Messrs E. B. Booth 3gns., and J. B. Jury Ign., vice-presidents of the union. It was reported that the referee, M.' A. McWhinnie, had ordered M. Hargood off the field at Masterton on April 30 for allegedly striking an opposing player. Consideration of the case was held over until Hargood appealed before the union. Transfers were granted subject to the production of clearances to the following: A. Manihera, Martinborough to Grey town; P. Phillips, K. Percy, T. Morris and P. Lee, all Red Star to Masterton; H. Taplin, Carterton to Opaki; H. Johns, Martinborough to Gladstone.

In the case of W. Workman, a clearance was produced and a transfer from Greytown to Masterton granted. R. J. Warrington was regraded a third grade player subject to the classification committee’s report. J. Flynn, Martinborough, was regraded a third grade player. A. G. Luideman, a junior, who had played for Opaki and Old Boys is to be asked for an explanation of his action.

Several schools sent letters of thanks for footballs received and the union agreed that in no case will more than three balls be granted to any one school.

Messrs Q. Donald and E. McKenzie submitted a report on the business at the New Zealand Rugby Union’s annual meeting, also a list of representative fixtures for the Wairarapa team for the season.

The Wairarapa-Hawke’s Bay junior match on June 6 is to be played at Masterton.

With a view to assisting Rugby Union funds it was decided that an application be made for permission to conduct an art union. It was also decided that the matter of holding a stock drive be considered at a later date. In view of the fact that the North and South inter-island match is to be played at Wellington on June 11, all championship matches in the Wairarapa will be suspended. The Wairarapa Referees’ Association is to be asked for the names of referees available to officiate at representative fixtures.
