W.F.C.A. STAFF BALL
PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS. At a meeting of the general committee of the W.F.C.A., Ltd., Staff Social Club, preliminary arrangements were made in connection 1 with the annual ball, which for many seasons past has been regarded as one of the outstanding and much-looked-for events of the Wairarapa social season. The date decided upon this year is Wednesday, June 22, when, as usual, it will be held in the Masterton Municipal Hall. Invitations are now being prepared, and any social newcomers to the district or others who may have been inadvertently overlooked are asked to communicate immediately with either Miss J. McMaster or Mr I. Tweddell, joint secretaries. The decorative scheme this season will be a novel and original one, and something above the usual standard. The usual routine lay-out will also be varied considerably, one instance being that the claret stall will be removed from the dance floor to the upstairs lounge, where chairs and tables will be conveniently arranged. Separate sub-committees have been appointed to attend to details in connection with different sections, including supper room, lounge bar, dressing rooms and cloak rooms, which latter will be in charge of experienced attendants, and tickets must be obtained for all articles deposited therein.
A presentation of debutantes will take place again this year at approximately 9.15 p.m. Parents wishing their daughters to be presented are requested to communicate with the secretary of the ladies’ committee immediately, to enable the necessary arrangements to be made.* A further innovation will be the rendering of extras by the firm’s staff orchestra of eight performers, who are stated to have reached a high degree of efficiency. Staff members and friends from Dannevirke, Pahiatua, Eketahuna, Carterton, Greytown, Martinborough and Wellington, have signified their intention of being present, and, judging by the enthusiasm displayed by the working committees from the Masterton headquarters, this season’s function promises to be one of the most brilliant social successes of the district.
