A VALUED TRUSTEE

MR D. CASELBERG’S LONG SERVICE. TRIBUTES AND FAREWELL. Regret was expressed at last night’s meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust at the retirement of Mr D. Caselberg, who had been a trustee for over 30 years. Eulogistic reference was made to Mr Caselberg’s service to the community and the hope was expressed that he would continue to take an interest in the administration of the town.

Mr R. Krahagen, who with Mr Caselberg and Mr E. G. Eton, joined the trust in 1907, said they were all very sorry indeed to lose such a useful member of the board. He was a man who could always be relied upon. His word was his bond. Mr Krahagen moved that the service which had extended to the Trust over the

past 31 years by Mr Caselberg, should be placed on record. Endorsing Mr Krahagen’s remarks, the chairman, Mr J. MacFarlane Laing, expressed regret that Mr Caselberg was retiring. With his long association with the Trust, Mr Caselberg had gathered a fund of knowledge which was invaluable. On behalf of the Trust, he thanked Mr Caselberg for what he had done in the past and expressed the hope that he would continue to take an interest in the Trust’s affairs. The other trustees, Messrs E. G. Eton, L. J. Taylor, H. P. Hugo, C. E. Grey, also expressed appreciation of Mr Caselberg’s work as a Trustee and wished him good health and happiness in the future.

In reply, Mr Caselberg thanked them all from the bottom of his heart for their, kind remarks. He recalled the time when he had joined the Trust in 1907, and with others had brought about an exchange of the present Police Station site in Lincoln Road and the • Magistrate’s Court site in Dixon Street for the present Trust Lands Trust site in Queen Street, where the original police station had stood. “I think everyone will agree today that we made a wonderful deal,” said Mr Caselberg amid laughter. Concluding his remarks, he thanked them once again and said that although at the next meeting of the Trust he would not be with them in person, he would be with them in spirit.
