Hislop, Citizens’ ticket nominee for re-election, secured a majority of 6088 votes over his Labour opponent, Mr C. H. Chapman, M.P. At the last election Mr Hislop defeated the Labour candidate, Mr R. MacFarlane (Labour) 18,698 Dr John Guthrie (Citizens’ Association) 17,418 The former mayor, Mr J. W. Beanland (Citizens) did not seek re-elec-tion. DUNEDIN. SITTING MAYOR DEFEATED. DUNEDIN, May 11. The Dunedin mayoral election resulted in the defeat of the Rev E. T. Cox (Labour), who was seeking the position for a third term. The voting was as follows: — A. H. Allen "(Independent) 17,899 E. T. CITY COUNCIL RESULT IN WELLINGTON LABOUR LOSES ONE SEAT WELLINGTON, May 12. The election for the Wellington City Council resulted in the return of nine Citizens’ candidates and six Labour candidates.
