WOMEN TEACHERS
MEETING OF MASTERTON BRANCH. SOME IMPRESSIONS ABROAD. On Friday evening the Women Teachers’ Association held the first meeting of the year, with a large attendance of members and friends. The president, Miss Tankersley, in a brief speech, welcomed Miss Marten, of Masterton West School, who has recently returned from a trip to U.S.A, and Canada, and Miss Greene, an English teacher at present on exchange at the Central School, both of whom were presented with hand posies of flowers. Miss Marten, the speaker for the evening, gave a most interesting talk about her trip and the impressions she had gained of the places she had visited. Commencing with an account of a brief stay at Suva, and the beauties of Honolulu, Miss Marten took her listeners to San Francisco and described the city as it appeared to a New Zealand visitor. From San Francisco she travelled across the States to Boston, where she spent some time, making the return trip via Canada. To illustrate her talk, Miss Marten had brought some interesting booklets and post cards, which members enjoyed looking at.
Supper and a social hour concluded the meeting, votes of thanks being accorded to Miss Marten and to the members of the suppei’ committee.
