MAHUNGA CLUB’S OPENING ON SATURDAY.
LINKS IN FINE ORDER. The official opening of the Mahunga Golf Club’s season took place on Saturday at the links. There was an attendance of about 90 members, and visitors, who were the guests of the visitors, who were the guests at afternoon tea of the president, Mr G. H. Perry. An apology for absence was received from the patron, Mr T. Jordan. In declaring the season open, Mr Perry extended a welcome to new members and visitors, and congratulated the committee and groundsman on the improvements carried out, and on the excellent fairways and greens. He wished al members an enjoyable season's play. A four-ball competition, played over nine holes, resulted in a win for Mr G. Booth and Mrs Plummer. MASTERTON CLUB. FOUR-BALL BOGEY CONTEST. A four-bal bogey competition was played on the Lansdwone links on Saturday by members of the Masterton Golf Club. The results were:—N. H. James and S. R. Divers, 10 up; F. Miller and F. Stowell, 3 down; C. Faulknor and L. Kibblewhite, 1 down. BIDEFORD CLUB. OPENING OF THE SEASON. The Bideford Golf Club opened its season during the week-end in ideal weather. The links were in good order, and there was a large attendance of Masterton players. The club’s secretary, Mr R. Falloon, tnrolled a number of new members. The links were declared open by the president, Mr C. J. Percy, who made reference to the increase in the club’s membership, observing that the season’s prospects appeared to be bright. The club captain, Mr T. H. Bell, complimented Mr W. H. Percy on the excellent condition of the links. Results were: —T. H. Bell and Mrs Bell, 43; J. Thornton and Mrs W. Batty, 43 (the former pair won on the toss of a coin); P. Dixon and Mrs Candy, 44; H. Hill and Miss Oliphant, 45.
