An important meeting of sporting men wilt be held at Featherstou, tomorrow night, to consider the matter of bolding a Hack Ease Meeting on the old Featberston race course, Mr Niool's property. According to the Wellington papers the Education Board have voted a new bell for the Qraytown school. The Times says Ur Buchanan moved for it, and Ur Bunny backed turnup. The Post says Mr Bunny made the motion. The rival Parliamentary candidates appear to be booked op by tbe Times and Post respectively. But as to the bell. Tbe present one at the school is sound, and it is one of tbe best in the in the Valley; tbe residents of Qrcytown are therefore at a loss to know why the bell has been repotted ae " cracked” and a new one ordered to be sent up. The Times states that additions to tbe school were authorised, It is to be hoped that this is correct for there are now 90 children in tbe infant division crowded into a room juat large enough for 60. We believe tbe desks and lavatories applied for by the committee have also been authorised. We have since heard that the bell is lor the Te Whiti School.

To-morrow afternoon will be set aside by cricketers to prepare both match and practice wickets for tbe coming season. A cartload of good soil has already been placed within the gates by one of the members for tho purpose of top-dressing, and now that the fine weather will soon be in, the soil ought to be spread without delay to be at ail beneficial. The Greytown committee meets to-morrow evening.

The Masonic Ball, at Mastorton, last evening, was a brilliant success. There were visitors from Greytown and Carterton. About seventy couples were present. The Drill Hall was beautifully decorated. The usual 4 p.m. train from Wellington tomorrow will be delayed until 6.35 p.m.
