The Coming Election.

To the Editor of the Standard.

Sib, —la your issue of the 15th instant you state that Mr Buchanan had been well received everywhere. Mow, Mr Editor, 1 must take exception to your statement, 1 need only refer yon to Carterton—Mr B*s stronghold. How is it, if the electors are so well pleased with our present member’s services, that at none of his meetings a vote of confidence has been proposed i Simply, because they dare not. Mr Buchanan, in his recent speeches, has laid great stress onßetrenchment. May I ask, Mr Editor, why ha has not moved in that direction before P Why, simply because it is against the traditions of his party. Then, again, he chooses, as the In.ore loader, John Bryce, if 1 mistake not, ho is the man who, as .Native Minister, jiardoned Te Kooti, the Poverty Bay murderer. That itsulfwould milit ate agaiust Mr Bryce's success as a leader. If Mr Bryce was to got into office, why, Sir, it would mean the return to ollico of Major Atkinson and party—a party the country has had enough of at present. If the electors of the Wairarapa are the men 1 take them to bo, they will not vote for the present member; but return the man who has their interest at heart That, Mr Editor, is more than our present member has. One question, just now, should be, the return of men who have the ability to carry on the business of the country; push on our works and make them return some of the outlay spent upon them, I may say, in conclusion, that, being a stranger to the district, I have listened carefully to the speeches of tae candidates, and that I have decided to support Mr Bonny in preference to Mr Buchanan. Hoping your columns will always be open to both sides, and apologising for trespassing on your rshu able space, I am, Ac., Braun.
