The Coming Election.

To the Editor of the Staminrd. Sir,—So the Observer is of opinion that he and tbe Star editor may magnify the deeds of the Freethinkers (Stout and Ballance) to tbe skies. But .f any other one dares to employ a freethinker he is all that 13 bad. These great men seem to be more prejudiced tbah men generally are. The scales must be very thick over their eyes. These Observer people are of a lower type probably. Pig. Fealherston, 4th July, 1887. To the Editor of the Standard. Sir, I note another old supporter has seceded from Mr Bunny. I told Mr Observer how it would be. He put his foot into it this time. His juveniles will have it all to themselves Tbe question often asked is, What will be tbe result il so many leave him ? My advice is that be should go to Thorndon and be rejected again. Clever people, like the Observer party, may construe that defeat into a defeat. Wellington would reject him again, so will South Watrarapa. Mr Buchanan has made us a very good and consistent member, and South Wairarapa will not forget that fact. Thorndon. Wairarapa, 4th July, 1887. To the Editor of the Standard. Si... -A report has come to oqr ears, being spread by either Mr Bunny or some of his most ardent supporters in Featberston, that we have dismissed a man named Brodenne because he refused to vote for Mr Buchanan. I give this report a most f._i denial. The man has been working on and off for us for years, draining; he lately fitiisf id the contract be was at- and we, having no more draining for him to do, he in the usual course left. As to which person be would vote tor, I do not know, although 1 am quite sure now he will not vote lor Mr Bunny. As to dismissing men because they do not vetefor the person we should like to see them do, we have never done so, although two of our men who we took over to Featberston, having promised to vote for Mr Buchanan, voted for klr Bunny ; those two nmn are still working tor us, and have been since the last election. I would give those two or three at dent supporters of Mr Bunny in Featherston a little advice, and it is.this ; not to allow tlieir enthusiasm to carry their heads away, and do and say things they will feel sorry for attertheelection. It Mr Buchanan's friends carried on the election in the same manner .0 air Bunny's supporters are doing, it would cause such a bitter feeling to arise amongst the settlers about here that would never be smothered. I do not wish to discuss the merits of the two candidates; but this I do say that not a single country elector ought to vote for any canuidate who votes for the present Government, as their sole aim is to remain in office at any price and to benefit the larger towns at the expense of the countiy (vide Charitable Aid Bill), knowing full well that the population of the towns far outnumbers those of the country. Yours, Ac., Wm, E. Bidwill.
