A matter which will bav a good (-fl.irt la potting down those unseemly ebullitions ol temper which wc have seen now and then on tbe field, was decided at the Auckland Bngby Union meeting last week, when Mr Henderson’s motion to add tbe following words to the rales for tbe guidance of umpires and referees, was agreed to “lo case of a wilful breach ol tbe rales of tbe game, or any foul play, or use of any unseemly or offensive language, the referee shall first caution the offending player, and, in case ol a repetition of the offence, may order him to retire from the game, and no substitute shall be allowed to take bia place.” For the first time in the football history ot Australia representative teams of Tasmania and Victoria met at Melbourne on Saturday, May 21. A good match under the Victoria Association rules was played before an immense audience ol 19,000, and resalted in the defeat of the visitors by a score of Victoria, 7 goals 15 behinds ; Tasmania, 4 goals 8 behinds.
