Br this time, unless something should occur to prolong its proceedings, the Session of Parliament ought to be pretty well over. There has been a sharp denate about the expenditure ou the Village Settlements scheme. Mr Ballauce had a vote of £SOOO, but in carrying out the scheme, contingent liabilities to the extent of some £70.000 were incurred. There is a good deal to be said ou both sides of the question. If Parliament last session sanctioned a big Village Settlement scheme, then of course, a large prospective expenditure was inevitable and £SOOO was a mere trifle towards it. Mr Ballanco says that ho has placed 1000 families on the laud. If these families do well, then a great good will have been accomplished We have not yet been able to get bold of full information about this Village Settlement scheme, and therefore reserve expressing any decided opinion with respect to it.
