Insofar as fireworks, illuminations, &c., arc concerned 1 say “ well and good.” Cut is flic day—a public holiday—to pass by without any effort 1 reiuo; made by the Mayor to interest us F May I sugoost that the school children —all tho children that can lie gathered—be formed in procession and marched down the Tauhcrenikau road. Then let them each plant a tree or seed on each side of tho road. In the course of a few years what an ornament it would be to tho southern extreme of the town, and when tho children have grown up to bo men anil women what recollections it would bring up, I would like to soo some move made, or everybody will be going to Wellington to s[)ond the day, and then the money goes with them. Let us provide something, and in these dull times keep the money iu tho district. I am, &c., Iksigxis.
