The coal mine of the Vancouver Com-' pauy at Nauaino, 8.C., caught fire after an explosion on 3rd May, with 150 men in tho two deeps. The damage to the property is estimated at 600,000 dollars, and all the lives are believed to be lost. Volcanic eruptions and earthquakes took place in New Mexico and Arizona on 4th May. Lava and smoke can be seen from the streets of Benson, 20 miles distant, pouring from the Whetstone mountain, pan of which had fallen in. The effects of these disturbances were felt in (Arkansas), Tucson (Arizona), Albuquerque (New Mexico), and El Paso (Texas). A marine disturbance near Sandfree Creek, Southern California, on 15th April, has strewn the beach for miles with all kinds of dead fish, including whales, sharks, sea turtles, &c. A whale 45 feet in length was cast up St Clarivelle, Ohio, was visited by a tremendous cyclone on 15th April, wrecking nearly every building in the city. Many persons neve severely injured, but no dentils arc reported. Extensive pension frauds have been unearthed in Loudon. N amos of officers who had retired in 1814 and 1820, and of ladies who had pensions granted to them 70 or 80 years ago, arc on the list. Tho Hounslow Gunpowder Mills at Hounslow Heath were destroyed by an explosion on 3rd May. It occurred in tho milling-room. One man was killed, and much damage was done to tho property in tho vicinity.
