The Jubilee Humbug.
The Cliuirmauof the Wellington Education Board, Mr .1. R, Blair, has been uttering some common sense words with respect to the Queen’s Jubilee. It was proposed to give the school children an extra week’s holiday on account of the Jubilee, whereupon Mr Blah- said that, in his opinion, the whole Jubilee celebration was unmitigated humbug and a perfeet farce. He could not understand the way people were led away over the matter. Mr H Bunny concurred with the Chairman’s opinion, aud said lie was sorry to see that a public meeting was going to be held in the Wairarapa to consider the best moans of celebrating the event. He would attend that meeting aud express his views. After some further discussion, it was decided to grant a special week’s holiday before the commencement of the midwinter holidays, making three weeks in all. We decidedly agree with Mr Bunny in the matter. Of course wo possess the usual amount of Royalty to Her Majesty the Queen, but at the same time we don’t see the use of making any fuss over her Jubilee, This Jubilee business is a sort of hobby which some snobbish folks have ridden to death.
