The following are some details of the i.iiiuii, Giovtown v. Masterton, second fifteens, pm.cu on Saturday T lie nuiith was Mailed nearly an hour later l.iim time arranged for, consequently the game was short, two 20 minutes being played. Greytown losing the toss for goals, kicked off, and sharp scrimmages were the order of the day, until Greytown was obliged to force down. After this the Red forwards rushed the ball up the field within a yard or two ef the Bine’s line, when time was called. The second spell was even less interesting than the first. The Blues seemed to be about warming to their work, and from a scrum in the Red’s 25 Felling obtained the leather and passed it to Ellers, who in turn passed it to Welch who ran in and scored a try. The kick at goal was a failure. Nothing of any interest took place until time was called, Maaterton thus winning this match by one try to nothing. Among the Masterton players Felling (2), Welch, and some heavy Maoris played well; while R. titigg, T. Hawke, and Allaway showed up well lor Greytown.
FOOTBALL NOTES, (Contributed). Tbe matches last Saturday resulted in a manner than was least expected to tbe onlookers. J. and C. Beard were far away the best forwards among the Greytown men ; Whatman and Welch showed up well for Masterton. Tbe backs—l don’t think aoy of them showed up to their nsnal form, both teams being very weak in this respect. 1 think next time the Greytown men have two matches on the one day they should do like Masterton—play some of the first men with the second and so give them practice. It wae plainly noticeable on Saturday that the Masterton second team averaged about two stone heavier than the Greytown men, and I believe if the game had been longer, it would have resulted in the reverse way to what it did.
