Leave of absence has been granted to the Hon Q. B. Morris, M.L.0., on account of ill health.

Major Ropata Wahawaha, of Waiomatanni County Cook, has been called to the Legists' tive Council.

In the House of Representatives the Hon Mr Richmond stated that the line would be taken np to Eketahuna in about twelve months’ time, but the Oovernmnnt were not prepared at present to promise that it would be taken any further, owing to the want of funds.

In answer to Mr Pearson the Minister of Lands said the charges made by certain members of the Land Board were paid in accordance with law. The expenditure on account of Waste Lands Boards was £2200 a year, and he was bound to say they did a good amount of work for the money.

Mr Buchanan asked the Government whether they will appoint a Registrar of Electors for the electoral district of Wairarapa South, whose office shall be in a central position in that district. The Minister of Justice said the matter was under the consideration of the Colonial Secretary, and he would endeavor to give effect to the request suggested in the question. Mr Buchanan asked the Minister for Public Works whether he will reduce the rates of freight for firewood carried on the Wellington Masterton line of railway. Ho said considerable quantities of firewood would be sent into Wellington if freights were reduced. The Minister for Public Works said considerable reductions were made in therates for carriage of firewood some time ago, and still further reductions would make the rates unremunerative.
