Measles and School Teachers.
It would seem that the Education Department (says the ‘ Ballarat Courier ’) occasionally indulges in a Joke at the expense of its teachers, for it can hardly be believed that a comical letter, covering two sheets of foolscap, which was received by two pupil teachers recently, was written in a serious mood. The teachers lodged in a house at which measles broke out, and they absented themselves from duty pending instructions from the said department. The instructions arrived in due time The teachers were censured for staying away from school under the circumstances. They should have either removed to different lodgings, or have isolated themselves in their usual quarters. They were to resume duty at once, and pursue one or other of the courses mentioned. If the latter, they were to fumigate themselves before going to school, and immediately after leaving school. They were not to go direct to school from their lodgings, but were rec mi mended to take a walk around the country for the purpose of exposing themselves to the breeze, a similar course was to I to pursued after coming from school. If it happened to boa calm dav, and there was no breeze about, they were to expose themselves to the action of Root's patent blower. They were to I
uncover their head* at intervals of a few yards, as this course would have a powerful effect in all trace* of the measles to depart from their persons. If, in addition to this, thev washed themselves frequently, the department notified that there waa no necessity for their absenting them selves from duty. The contents of the letter having got noised abroad, have naturally caused much amusement among their fellow-teachers, and numerous ]okes are cracked at the expense of the two lodgers in the measles infected house.
