Terrible Explosion at Sydney.

Sydney, March 23. A terrible accident, occasioned by an explosion of gas, and by which 85 persons were entombed, occurred at the Bulli colliery today. Seven bodies have already been recovered, and it is feared that uoue of those entombed will be rescued alive. Later.

Accounts state that a terrific blast of hot air burst from the tunnel and the mouth became blocked. The disembowelled remains of a boy and six charred bodies of adults have been found. Efforts are being made to get at the others entombed, who are said to number 70, but their rescue is believed to be hopeless. The scene of anguish at the tunnel mouth, where the wives and children of the entombed men congregated, is indescribable. The mine had been lying idle for some time owing to the strike, but work had lately been resumed, and every precaution had been taken to ensure the safety of the mine.
