MORRISON’S BUSH v. KAIWAIWAI,

A moat enjoyable aud exciting cricket match was played at Morrison's Bush, in Hodge’s paddock between the above teams on Saturday last, and resulted in a win lor Kaiwaiwai by eight runs. Mr Reeve, the Morrison's Bush captain, won the toss, and sent Kaiwaiwai to the wickets Owing to the good stand made by L. Nix and W. Bicknell, who made 15 and 14 respectively, the score of 65 was made before the last wicket fell. In this innings H. Hodge bowled three out in one over. W. Tweeddale was first rate behind the wickets, there being only five byes. Morrison’s Bush in their first innings knocked up 55 runs, there being no less than six dock eggs. J. Cross made 21, not out, going in first aud carrying his bat right through. He batted with patience and steadiness, and was carried out by his comrades. Wm Tweeddale made the hit of the day in this innings, four. Extras were very large 10. Kaiwaiwai in their second innings scored 61, the highest scorer being W. Williams, who made 13 by steady play, extras being also 13. D. Cross bowled splendidly, getting seven wickets. Morrison s Bush requiring 72 to get to win weut in for their second innings, but only made 63. Waikato (Maori) batted very steadily for his 10, while W. Reeve merrily knocked up 12. Extras were again large 14 The trundlers for Kaiwaiwai in the first iunmgs were J. Tooker 6 wickets, L. Nix 1 and W. Feast 2. W. Feast was the best bowler iu the second innings, securing five wickets. There was a fair sprinkling of the fair sex on the ground, who seemed to take a lively interest in the proceedings. Mrs Hodge was entrusted with the catering for the cricketers, and provided a really excellent lunch. Mrs Hodge also entertained both teams at tea, when Mr Beeves, captain of the Morrison s Bush team, proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs Hodge, and being seconded by Mr locker, captain of the Kiiwaiwai team, was carried by acclamation. A dance was afterwards held in the school, the room being crowded. Mesdames T Wake, tin, W Reeve, ami J Mclntyre provided light refreshments, while Messrs F. Barrett (violin.) H. Hodge (piccolo), and four members of the M irtinbotough Band, (threa ol whom were the Messrs Walls, braes instruments), discoursed some good dance music.
