The Jubilee Singers.

As was to be expected the Jubilee Singers were greeted with a packed house at Oreytown on Friday night. The Town Hall has never been taxed to each an extent before. Long before the hoar for opening the doors a large crowd of persons were waiting to secure seats, and from all parts oi the Lower Valley vehicles laden with passengers were driven into (ireytowh. Of the entertainment itself words fail to give any idea of its merit. The appearance of the colored singers, the quaint character of the words and music, and the marvellous beauty and pathos of the various melodies, called forth strange emotions and feelings. “Steal Away to Jesus’’was the first piece of the evening, and the listeners were thrilled and enchanted at once with the harmony, so rich and full. It was a beautiful blending of sweet sounds and fairly captivated everybody, some even to tears. And what may be said of this one piece may be said ol all. The singing all through was moat ex pressive, and wo doubt if anyone present over heard v'cdisation so perfect. The following chouises wore rendered ; ".Steal away to Jesus,” with the Lord’s I’iiio r burned at 11 .c finish ; •• Out Vou I S ..iy, Line's a Mte-iiuj’ IK'o T-lit," j ‘ tr • ' -1" My l.oiu’s . i(, ' ■" Iri •’ hi ", ! 1; an i ’■■ Iv, i!t ; “ i.,! ; ayl. a, lo tin .. ■ ; ’ ■< . . Miss Lawrence deserves special mention for the cultivated excellence oi her singing. Mr Loudin has a wonderful voice. Standing behind the party his deep musical bass voice of immense power seemed to ha/o the effect of blending tbc voices together into one harmonious whole. We own to « feeling of thankfulness that the Jubilee Singers have been in our midst. ’They have not only given us an evening of rich musical enjoyment, but we believe those who heard them ou Friday iiiglil will profit by it in a musical sense. II it begi Is a love for part singing, with olear ami proper intonation, pure harmony, and with more regard to pianissimo and crescendo we shall have gained a lasting benefit by the visit of these famous singers.
