London, February 10. The death is announced of Mrs Henry Wood, the popular novelist, aged 67. Sir Charles Warren, Chief of the Metropolis tan Police, has contradicted the report that on the occasion ol the Socialistic meeting at Clerkenwell a body of roughs pillaged several of the shops in the neighborhood. The Pope has issued another despatch to the Boman Catholic electors, aud enjoins them to support those candidates who will support the increase of the Army Bill. A number of general officers of the French army have left Algiers to take commands in France. Several battalions of troops have also been ordered home. At the colonial wool sales today 11,600 bales were offered. The market is quieter. All qualities of wool are jd higher than at the close of last sales. The total withdrawals to date amount to 15,000 bales. February 11. The Russian authorities have snmmoued 100,000 men from the reserves to undergo drill aud exercises. A petition is being organised asking the Czar to subjugate the Christian provinces ol Eastern Europe still under the Turkish yoke. Thousands of people are signing the docu* ment. Enormous quantities of wheat are being exported from Odessa in anticipation of a blockade. France has witbdrawu her opposition to the abolition of the corvee in Egypt. Btojjiy, February 11. Wheat is quoted at from 6s lOd to 4s. the market having been cleared ; oats, 2s 3d to 2s 8d ; maize, 4s 6d per 561b. No New Zealand potatoes are in the market. February 12. Of sixty two members elected to the new Parliament forty-eight are pronounced free' traders. Mr Garrett, Minister of Lands, baa been returned at the head of the poll lot Camden, and all Ministers have now been reelected.
