Card Sharpers.
Grey town, during the two race days, was infested with card sharpers, but the police were on the watch for the gentlemen. Going down to Wellington, however, on Friday they divided themselves throughout the train and tried to entice the unwary ones. The guard cautioned them and as they took no notice of him be tele graphed to Wellington and from thence a telegram was sent to Constable Harnett, of the Upper Hutt, who arrested ten of these gentry, who, upon their arrival in Wellington they were marched off to the lockup. As only five of them could be identified the other five were released. On Saturday at the BM Court, Sherman, Chudleigh, Arthurson, Stephens and Smith, the five men, were charged with playing cards and dice on the railway. The case was remanded until Wednesday.
