On the evening of 14th December, an immense cloud of beetles, said to cover a space of about two miles in length, settled in the district near Fyansford, Victoria, between 7 and 8 o’clock. The cloud of insects was so dense that persons driving along the road towards Geelong encountered some difficulty iu effecting the journey. Taka the hyacinth for example; it always smells sweet, but a hyacinth in a room is scarcely noticeable during the day. At about 11 o’clock at night, however, its , rfame becomes so strong as to fill the room with fragrance, A Charleston woman was strangely affected by the earthquake. Her hair which is long and black is falling out in places leaviugthe bare scalp exposed; i the physicians state that it is caused by paralysis of scalp caused by fright.
