The Featherston Rifle Volunteers, undeCaptain A Donald with Lieuts Benton at Smith, paraded for outdoor inspection an drill on Monday night. There was a goou muster, particularly as the hour, six o’clock, was rather early in the evening for many. The company has bee:’ greatly augmented in strength lately, and some good men have recently joined. Major Bunny was present on Monday evening and inspected the company. They paraded on the square plot of grass near the school, and it was a most suitable place for the purpose. Captain A Donald on Saturday won the clock presented by Major Bunny, with 62 points. Corporal Whiteman came next with 60 points. A concert and dance in connection with the Featherston Rifles will be held in about a fortnight at the Oddfellows' Kail. Many of the leading ladies and gentlemen vocalists in the district have promised to assist, and it is expected that some Greytown residents will also render some assistance in return for the services given by the Featherston singers at the entertainments during the winter in Greytown. Altogether, the event should prove most enjoyable.
