Another of those pleasant ciiteitiinraents held in connection with tho Waihnkcke School, wiia opened on Mouthy last l),v a piano solo played in Mias Braithwaite’a well known effective style. The young folks with «. little assistance from their elders then gave a part song appropriate to the season, entitled “ A Happy New Yem." The Rev Mr. Western, who was heartily welc..’ ted by i old friends, read “ Rabbit Pie ” in a plcu.-ing manner. Next on the list oame Mr c. Parker, whose song “ The Fisherman and his Child ” was highly appreciated, and obtained an encore. A duet by Miss Braithwaite tpiano), and Mr Lundqvist (violin), followed. Then a reading of Mr Parker’s, which highly amused the audience. Mr Wilkinson gave a song entitled “ Married to a Mermaid," alter which Mr Harper amused the company with a comic song, which elicited fan encore. Messrs Pajket and MonoriefTs duet" Minute Hun at Sea " was given with faultless execution. The Rev Western then gave another reading. " The Gleaners ’’ by Miss Braithwaite was prettily sung. Mr Hooper was again called upon, also Mr Parker, who gave another reading. A round entitled “ When the Rosy Moon Appearing,” sang by Mrs and 1 Mias Braithwaite and Mr Moucrieff was the gem ot the evening. Mr Moncrieil gave u comic song, “ My Wife’s Relations.’ Mr Braithwaite apologised for the absence of some gentleman ol Carterton, who be sop*
nosed, were unavoidably detained. The entertainment was brought to a close by the petieiraers singing “ Auld Lang Syne " in the tine Scotch style. (The above report was accidentally omitted laat week)
