Accident at Taratahi.

An accident happened at Taratahi to Ur Felling, the Masterton lemonade manufacturer, which might have been attended with serious results. It appears that Mr Felling drives a horse with a great proclivity to start suddenly when a person attempts to enter the vehicle. Upon this occasion Mr Felling had just entered the brake when, before he could recover the reins, the animal made a bolt forward, throwing Mr Felling on to bis head, and inflicting a severe .scalp wound. To make matters worse, a little boy, son of Mr U. Hodgius, attempted to jump out of the van, when by seme means he was caught in the wheel, and his leg was severely lacerated. Mr M. Hodgins was soon on the spot and carried the boy to his house. The little fellow bore up under his injuries very pluckily and a messenger was dispatched to bis father who was soon in attendance, and had the poor boy conveyed to his home, Little Michael Hodgins was going to Masterton on a visit to Mr Felling’s family, wiien the unfortunate occurrence happened. |Dr Porter, who was in Greytown when the accident happened, attended the boy in the evening at his parents’ residence, the Boyal Oak Hotel, Carterton, and pronounced that no bones were broken, and that the patient only requires care to speedily recover. It may be mentioned that there was no fault attached to anyone iu the matter, and the affair was purely an accident cause 1 by the propensity of the horse in starling so prematurely. Mr M. Hodgins, of the Tamtalii Hotel, who saw the accident, very prompt y ran out and stopped the horse, which was not going at mucn speed.)
