Musical Entertainments.

Everybody was delighted with the concert given at Greytown on Wednesday evening by Hr and Mrs Mackintosh, Miss Randall. Miss Widdop, Messrs Pronse, J. and A. Hill, Widdop, and the Rev P. N. Hunter, all of Wellington. From first to last the audience was charmed with the rendering of all the items on the programme and went home pleased and edified. The well trained and rich voices of the singers did justice to the musical authors of the various pieces, and the duets and choruses blended most hannonis ously. The instrumental part of the programme was most enchanting. Mr Mackintosh with the clarionette and surrusophone made a lasting impression, and the dnet on the olarionette with the Rev Mr Hunter was beautifully given. Tonng Alfred Hill kept the audience epell bound with the sweet music which he drew from his violin and he waS'Booorded a thundering encore. He is a genius and we venture to say that after be has finished his musical studies in Germany be will rank among the first violinists of the day. MrP. H. Wood, at the close of the concert, proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the performers, oonpling with them the name of the Rev Mr Ward, who has been the means of securing such a rich musical treat for the people of the Wairarapa. This was carried by acclamation and the Rev Mr Ward in responding announced that be bad made arrangements for the musical party to give another treat on Friday evening, and in order that it should be within the reach of all the prices bad been fixed very low.

At Featberston last night the same party of magicians gave an entertainment which was in every way a success. Mr Barton, of Featberston, had the ball beautifully hung with curtains and evergreens and the building was well tilled with au appreciative andienee. The piano bad been tuned for the occasion, but unfortunately it was half a note too high, and this was a drawback. However, the singers and instrumentalists were in good trim and fulfilled their parts to the satisfaction of their hearers. From the first to the last item the spell of the music was manifest, and those who had the privilege of bearing it felt its influence long after the close of the concert. Mr Widdop was especially good. So also was Mr Pronse ; his effort “ True to Death ” being given with great power. Mr J. Hill suffered somewhat from a cold, and could not complete the duet " Love and War.” His brother Alfred, with the violin, charmed the audience with bis exquisite playing. Of Miss Widdop, who presided at the piano, we most speak in unqualified praise. She performed her duties with precision and splendid effect, and she possesses musical powers of a high order. At the close of the concert the Her Mr Ward spoke a few words of thanks to the ladies and gentlemen who bad at some sacrifice visited the townships upon this musical mission, and it is hardly necessary to sty that his remarks found a warm and enthusiastic echo in the audience.

The people of Qreytown will have another musical treat tonight, when an entirely new programme will be presented by the ladies and gentlemen who made ouch a pleasing and lasting impression on Wednesday night. Mr Ernest Widdop will sing, and the noted ABC dnet will be given. Mr Allred Hill will favor the audience with two efforts on the violin, which are additions to the items on the printed programme. The prices ol admission have been fixed at Is fid and Is, and the Town Hall should be filled.
