Wairarapa South County Council.

The ordinary meeting of the above Council was held at their Chambers, Carterton, on Saturday. Present—Crs W Booth (chairman), H Bunny, H R Bunny, H Braithwaite, C Phillips, J Martin, W 0 Buchanan and J Tully, The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

Correspondence—From TaratahUCarterton Board re making outlets on Park Road to allow vehicles to pass. Cr H R Bunny moyed and Or Braithwaite seconded that the two Road Boards be asked to take the management of the County Roads.

Ou the motion of the Chairman the matter was deferred for a while.

It was ultimately resolved that the Tara-tabi-Carterton Road Board be asked to see to the required outlets on Park Road.

Prom United Charitable Aid Board re the liability of the County to that Board. A great deal of discussion ensued on this matter, when it was resolved that the matter be referred back for farther information. From the Colonial Treasurer, re the loan applied for under the Local Bodies Loan Act, 1846. From Premier's office, re the election of officers to the United Charitable Aid Board.

From United Board, enotosiag an account due by the Council to the Board. In referring to the account it was seen there were two nsrsoos receiving aid from the Board, and they were both from Masterton, and also an account which is owing the Greytown B ’rougli Ouuuuillois, is included in the account. Cr VV. C. Buchanan moved that the accounts be returned, and to ask for a proper detailed statement of what the Council owes and all other necessary information thereto. Cr Philips seconded the motion, and added that the United Board be requested to give a list of the denominations of the children in the Industrial Schools.

The Clerk was requested to reply to the circular from the Bruce County Council, informing them that this Council fully agrees with them in respect to each district keeping their own poor, and will do all in their power to assist them in getting a Bill passed to that effect.

Cr Phillips asked whether the Council would guarantee L2O a year for 26 (years towards the erection of the bridge from Grey* town to Matarawa, He was requested to table a notice of motion for next meeting of the Council, which be did.

The minutes of the meeting of Public Works Committee were read and confirmed. It was resolved that the consideration of the rating area be referred to the P. W. Committee.

The engineer’s report was read, and he was instructed to inform Mr Dawson that he must proceed with his contract without delay. Cr H. Bunny moved that Crs W. Booth, W. C. Buchanan, J. Tully, and the mover be elected members of the United District Board. Seconded by Cr J, Martin, and carried. County By-laws. Slaughterhouses—On the motiou ol Cr W. C. Buchanan, seconded by Cr H.Braithwaite, allowed to stand over till next meeting. By-laws re carrying a light attached to vehicles between the hours of sunset and •iiiurlse—Cr H. Bunny moved, Cl -J. Tullv seconded, that Inspector Shearman be respectfully asked to depute the constables of the district to see this by-law adhered to. This concluded the business, and the mooting adjourned.
