The Late Entertainments.

To the Editor of the HUnidard.

Sib,—Might I ask for a little space in your valuable columns to say something about the entertainments (?) given by the Wairatapa Ride Association last Wednesday and Thursday at the Town Hall. Being under the impression that a really first class entertain, meet was to be provided, I sauntered down to the Hall on Thursday night, and sat patiently waiting for the commencement oi the performance till about ten minutes to nine, 1 then thought about going home, but was told by a gentleman that the performance was about to open with a farce. After this was over the volunteer prizes were presented by Alajot Bunny, and three good items were given by gentlemen visitors. I may say that it was with a great feeling of annoyance and disappointment that I left for home, and certainly intended to show up the Greyfown Dramatic Club for treating people in such a contemptuous manner. 1 was, however, informed by one oi the members of the Dramatic Club that the Club had nothing whatever to do with the first part of the programme. That was to be provided by the Bide Association. I can only say that snob being the case, the members of the Dramatic Club have every reason to think themselves badly treated, they having come forward on both nights and carried out their share of the programme. Major Bunny and other gentles men in speaking, made no mention whatever of thanks to the Dramatic Ciub, Major Bunny stating that nest year when the Association and prizes were given, there would be no performance. This in itself was a direct insult to the amateurs. Nor is this all, for during the performance of the farce the behaviour of certain volunteers in the back seats was simply disgusting, their conversation and behaviour at times completely drowning the voices of the actors. In fact, it was surprising that the amateurs did not stop the farce and drop the curtain, for it was quite impossible lot other people to hear what was going on. There is no doubt that their object was to disconcert and annoy the performers, who, however, bore the ordeal with good spirit, and under the trying cir* cmnstanoes, acquitted themselves creditably. Later on a gentleman visitor, who gave an excellent recitation, had to stop in the midst of the same and ask these gentlemen (?; whether it was their intention to insult him owing to their ao : ,' and offensive behaviour. In conclusion, 1 would suggest that if the Rifle Association at any future time work up au entertainment, they will make a better affair of it than the last, and never again treat people in such a scurvy and contemptible manner. 1 am, Ac., Dse Who was Present.
