Volunteering.
The Greytown Rifle Volunteers mustered for drill last night and marched out. Captain Cameron and Lieut Porritt were present, and the company was put through a number of evolutions by the captain. Several of the men aleo had the'r new tunics fitted on by the tailor. After the parade a meeting of the match committee was held and arrangements made for the match to be fired against the Wellington Guards on the morning of the 9 th, The following were selected to make a trial on Saturday at the range at 2 p.m., for the selection of members of the team to represent the Greytown Corps on the occasion of the match with the Guards Captain Cameron, Lieut Porritt, Sergt Trotman, Color Sergt Willason, Sergts Gooding and Humphries, Corp F Collier, Vole Tocker, Braggins. Blake, Hall, sen, Harris, J W Hawke, J B Hobman, T Fisher, and C £ Goodin. The names of the team selected will be posted up in the window of the Volunteer Office on Saturday night and published in the Standard on Monday next. The A and C squads will also compete in their tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Guards will arrive by the late train on the Bth iust. GREYTOWN v. FEATHERSTON. A heavy shower fell during the match.
