The Matarawa Bridge.

The residents of Matarawa have no doubt learned with thankfulness that Mr King, the County Engineer, has prepared plans for a bridge near the site of the present swiug bridge between Greytown and their district. For many long years the settlers have had to put up with considerable inconvenience for want of proper communication between the two places, and there has also been loss of life in crossing the river. Mr Buchanan, M.H.R., tried to get the Government to pul up a bridge, but the reply he got was that Matarawa appeared to be well supplied with bridges already, seeing that they had tbe railway bridge on one side and the Waiobine bridge on the other. This settled the matter as far as the Government was concerned. Now the County Council have taken the matter up, and plans have been prepared of a three span bridge of substantial build and good appearance, and though the Council have postponed the consideration of its erection until their next meeting, wo feel sure that, having had the plans prepared, the work will shortly be put in hand and quickly carried through.
