On Saturday evening at Invercargill a man named Thomas Patterson, a market gardener at Appleby, was driving home and did not notice the approach of the train. Hearing a whistle, he stopped suddenly, with the result that the cowcatcher struck the dray and capsized it. Patterson was thrown out, and it was subsequently ascertained that he bad been internally injured, in addition to getting several ribs broken.
