To the Editor of the Standard. Sir, —Mr duff, on Monday (waning,'said tbe concerts in future would be for tbe cadets. Could not the Committee arrange for a fall juvenile performance—boys and girls. It would draw a good bouse, I think, for the children who have hitherto taken part were highly appreciated. I am, &c., Old Bot. Greytown, September 1. Oreat Earthquakes. 300 PEOPLE KILLED IN GREECE. Athens, August 28. An earthquake, causing great destruction of property and loss of life, has occurred at Fhiiistra, a town on the Southwest Coast of Greece, in tbe province of Mores. Fully 300 persons are known to have perished. . August 30. Latest accounts regarding the earthquake at Philistra put the loss of life at less than was originally stated. One hundred and sixteen bodies have been recovered, and many persons have been rescued from the ruins of the town who have sustained serious injuries. Albundru, August 28. Several severe shocks of earthquake have been experienced in various parts of Egypt. Rome, August 28. Reports to hand from several towns in Italy state that heavy earthquake shocks were felt during yesterday.
