The completion cf the Canadian Pacific Railway promises a revolution in the current of passenger traffic uo lees remarkable than that which followed the opening of the Sues Canal. As soon as steamers begin running from British Columbia, the distance from Loudon, in days, will be as follows, by the Suez and the Canada routes To By Suez. By Canada Japan 45 25 Hongkong 36 31 Shanghai 40 30 Melbourne 39 34 Sydney 40 34 Adelaide 38 35 Auckland 45 31 The new route will likewise be shorter than that liy New York and San Francisco Mile* from London. To By N. York, By Quebec. Melbourne .. 14,397 13,959 Sydney .. .. 13,837 13,399 Yokohama.. .. 11,277 10,290
In other words, Australia will be 500 miles, and Japan 100 miles nearer tuan hy the present route via New York and San Francisco.
