Perry captained tbe Greens and Hirschberg the Reds. Tbe game commenced by E. Udy kicking off (or Wairarapa. Daring tbe whole of the first spell the ball was kept well down to the Wellington quarters, daring which time Charley Perry and A. Udy distinguished themselves, Hirschberg also made a good punt for Wellington. A fine scrimmage took place when Perry got a good kick and E. Udy passed to Hounslow who secured a try. Webster placed tbe ball, but E, Udy failed to cover the goal. Wellington kicked off at 25 flag, and aome good play was shown by Perry and Baumber. It now became evident that the Wairarapa team was the best oi the two ; eveiy man was on the qni vive, and not an opportunity was lost -, while tbe Wellington Captain made several calls to his men to pack in at the scrimmages. Fair* brother and Hirschberg were very smart and made good nse of tbe ball when it got iuto their hands. Webster did some smart passing and C. Perry was at one time scadding over the field with the ball, but fortunately (or Wellington was landed by Thompson. C. Beard also made some good dashes with the ball aud gaiued much grouud. Hounslow did some good dribbling, and little Baumber gained much applause (or his quick action with tbe leather. Dixon, full back fpr Wellington, did some good rushes. SevefU rushes were msde, but the Wairarapa forwards proved the strongest, aud in tbe scrimmages they generally got tbe best of the play. Whatman mads a very clever pass to 0. Perry on one occasion, and Perry carried it for some distance. F. Tally showed some good dribbling, and E. Udy was a tower of strength when he get hold of the leather. Ha secured a try, and C. Perry tried (or the goal, but the angle was too difficult for him to score. Tbe latter part of ths spell was most exciting ; the spectators were quite carried away with the movements of tbe players, aud sparred them on with shouts and gesticulations. As the time lor closing the game drew on, both sides piayed vehemently, and tbe ball flew over the field to and fro with great rapidity. The Wellington men got the ball very close to the goal line of the Greens and secured a mark, but Fairbrother in his kick fell short of the goal. Web* ster next secured a mark and gained ground by kicking into touch. The Wellington forwards made a grand rush and Fairbrother getting tbe ball, got past all tbe Wairarapa men when C. Perry like a deer was upon him and brought him to grief. Hirschberg next secured a mark and kicked well up the field and (J. Perry returned into touch. Baumber, Tally, E. Udy, F Fairbrother, and Kilner now displayed their powers. Fairbrother made a good run and escaped from the hands of W. Perry and A. Udy, but he wai collared ou the goal line by Roydhouse. He however managed to get tbe ball down and when it was taken oat Fairbrother made a good attempt at goal, the ball just missing. Baumber made a good ran some time after and P. Tally ditto, Imt the latter wee cleverly collared by Richardson ; the ball was however passed to 0. Board, who got over the line with it. A maul followed ia Wellington’s favor, and a good rush iollowed the kick out. Hounslow dribbled grandly ; Thompson made a fine dash aero-a the field, but was rolled into touch by Baumber. Perry was just upon tbe point of scoring when Dixon get hold of him, Agaiu there was great excitement for the ball w in within four yards of the Wellington goal line and a grand struggle took place, when Th mipson got the ball aud carried it out a good way. K Udy captured him and got a good run and passed like a shot to Board who sho-.vvd a m >-t formidable front, end was stopped with difficulty. Time wus now called, Result : Wairarapa won by two tries to one. Dixon, the fall back for Wellington, did some good work for his side ; J. Roydbovfte for the Wairarapa team. and the respective teams ou this occasion were most happy in their selection of half and quarter backs. E Udy shone as a powerful forward: must uumistakeably that position is his foite. Hounslow aud Frank Tully were as good wiug men as Wairarapa could wish for. The Wellington team did not appear to possess the same amount of physique as tbe oue that played against Wairarapa on their own ground, but they were uot by auy menus contemptible opponents, and (ought a hard game.
