Perches for Fowls.
To the Editor of the Standard. Sir, —The streets of Greytown are named aud ticketed, but by the beard of the prophet I should like to know who originated the tickets. Citizens of Wellington, we have an idea for you ; our Borough Council have been sitting and brought forth an idea. We have now in our town a number ef wooden arrange* moots shaped like y, and on the cross piece at the top the name of the street is painted. I went out the other moruing tor a walk and I came suddenly upon one of those T’s; my first thought was to commit suicide straight away by hanging myself to it; but I reflected and came to the conclusion that if a oat ran up the pole fhe whole concern would give way. I then thought I would dry my top coat upon it, but feared the result of such a scareduw. In lime of war the crosses might ho useful, but we must have more of them. Lot us elect dozens of them all over the borough and when the enemy comes we will catch them and ci unify them as the Homans did the Jews in the days of long ago. Meanwhile they will be used in various ways. I saw a young rooster trying to fly np to one iho other afternoon, and the thought came to me that in addition to the name of the street the words might be added “ Fowls may roost hero." I am, , PICiiWICK.
