Closing Up.
It is thought at .Wellington that the session of Parliament will be brought to a close during the ensuing week. There is still a huge mass of business on the Order Paper, including some fifty Bills iu various stages of progress. Nearly all these will be ruthlessly 11 massacred,” if the Government can manage it, so as to bring the session to an end at once. Half the business would thus be left unfinished, but what matters that ? Hon members will be paid at the rate of about £4 a day for the number of days they have been sitting, while Ministers will keep their billets, draw their “ screws,” and enjoy a period of comparative idleness and complete happiness during the recess. Meantime, the taxpayers may fret and howl as much as they please. They can do nothing more.
