On Saturday last a match was played in Carterton on the Pastors! Show Ground between the fifteen selected as a Trial Team to represent the Wairarapa Uoghy Union in the match with the Wellington Union on the 3lct instant in Wellington, and another Eighteen selected from the various Clubs in the Valley. The game resulted in a win for the Fifteen by two goals and two tries to nil On Saturday next the same teams will meet again on the Greytown ground for practice. All those whose names appear as below are particularly requested to be on the ground at 3 o'clock ebarp, at wbieb time the match will commence. As (be final team will be selected after thie match, every player should make an effort to be preeent. The following are the names of tboee selected for the two teams . Fifteen—J Perry, W Perry, Whatman, Hounslow, Cliff, Fairbrother, Ewen, E Udy, C Udy, A Udy, Boydbouse, 0 Beard, Kemble, G Humphries and Webster. Emergencies—J. Beard, A. Moore. Hobman. The return (match between teams from Martinboroogh and the Greytown Fire Brigade came off on Saturday laat at the Reserve, Greytown. D. The visitors new rallied and made things very lively for the home team, being within an aoe of scoring several times, but the splendid collating of Terry and Boydbonse, and Burob's judicious kicking into touch, saved their side time after time. Mo further score was made, the home team winning by a try to love. For the winners, J. Terry played his level best, his. collaring and running making itfvery unpleasant for bis opponents. Burch as full back was in his plaoe, surprising every one by bis good play, considering he does not practise. Amongst the forwards J. Ryan was very conspicuous, always on the ball and paying every attention to Frank Tally and Hume. For the losers, F. and O. Tally played a good game, but they were quite overmatched and were quite lucky to keep their opponents from scoring on several occasions. Messrs Maguire and D. Balllie umpired (or Greytown and the Valley, and Mr Cox was an impartial referee.
