Licensing.

The newly appointed Licensing Committee for the Greytown Borough, held its annual meeting on Wednesday. Present—Messrs Kimberley, Porrilt, Cameron, Bay and Taylor. The clerk read the Gazette notice an* nouncing the appointment by the Governor ol the new committeemen, also the minutes of the meeting ol Die old committee, which were confirmed. On the motion ol Mr Kimberley seconded by Dr Taylor, Mr Porritt was elected Chairman. Mr Gray, solicitor, appeared for Mr John Fabian to apply for a license for a new house to be called the Club Hotel, situate in Grey* town, on the Maiu Street, near Mr F. H. Wood’s auction mart, the plans for which were submitted for the inspection of the cammittee, and it was also stated that the build* iug was now in course of erection. Mr Gray having addressed the Bench showing the necessity for increased hotel aoeommoda* tion, and also submitting that a number of residents desired the additional hotel, tbs bench decided to take another application,— pending prior to considering the case. Mr Sandilands then applied for a license for a new betel on the site of the old " Rising Sun,” which was destroyed by fire a few years ago. Mr Sandilands at some length pointed out the necessity of a new house at the sonth end of the town aud near the railway station and new raoe course. Constable Eooleton, on behalf of the police, objected to any new licenses on the ground that they were not required. The Constable admitted that at race times the accommodation was rather insufficient, but informed the Bench that if no new licenses were granted, Mr Hammerioh and Mr G. Jones would increase their bedroom accommodation by 40 aud 100 respectively. The Constable said * boardinghouse might be an acquisition to the town.

The Bench, having retired for a time, decided to adjourn their deoiiion on both application! for new lioeniee for one month. The old licensee were granted, the polios reporting favorably in both case*.
