He then called upon Mr Nation, who ou rising to speak said he wished to talk on the subject be had chosen in a homely manner with them, not (or the mere sake o( a bit of fan, bat that the young people present might perceive that the subject was a sacred and solemn one, in which the whole of their future interests were involved. Tbe speaker then dealt with the subjects under their various headings, and although dealing seriously with many points, evoked much merriment at times by his humorous illustrations. Mr W. Barker then followed with bis address on " Phrenology,” and by tbe aid of diagrams and a lucid explanation of the organs of the brain, iutereated tbe audience (or a con* siderable time. He pointed out the locality of the organs, and showed how tbe sbspe of tbe head was an index to character. He was particularly happy in some of bis reference* to the social qualities and their bearing upon the subject treated ol by tbe last speaker. At tbe conclusion of tbe address several came forward to have their characters delineated and Hr Barker waa admittedly successful. Some of tbe lads attending tbe school were dealt with, and Mr T. Wakelin, the teacher, corroborated the lecturer's readings on nearly every point. In conclusion Mr Barker expressed a hope that young men would study the subject for themselves and explained how he wav first led to take it op. The Chairman called for a vote of thanks to the speakers which was heartily responded to. In replying Mr Nation said both Mr Barker and himself were interested in tbe advancement of the yonng, and if at any (ntnre time they could assist the school in any way, the committee eould depend upon their help. The room was then cleared and the company held a danoe.
