MATABAWA v. DALEFIELD.

This return match was played at Dalefield on Saturday. The Matarawa Club ia a new one, but possesses the material for good eiicketers. They have practised well this year, aud if they persist as at present, next year they will no doubt be able to successfully tackle the Greytown Club or some of the other old clubs in the Valley. For Dalefield, Connal bowled firstrate, and at one time from the east side, he was dead npon the wickets. None but A.. Gallon, who got into double figures (12), being able to make a stand against him ; five wickets being taken by him for three runs. Bambury and J. Stevens also bowled welt for Dalefield. Tbe fielding of the Dalefield team was remarkably good -Acocks and Dempsey particularly dis> tinguishing themselves. The Matarawa eleven, on the occasion of Dalefield’s first innings, both fielded and bowled excellently, all being disposed of for small scores, fonr by Carter being tbe highest. This was principally owing to the fine bow i> g of the brothers T. and W. Ray wall, who were in good form. In Dalefiuld's second innings the Matarawa men were not so successful, their opponents putting together 81 before beiog disposed of. Carter alone contributing 29, when be was splendidly caught by A. Gallon at long field on ; Mr Price batted very steadily (or his six ; Chew and Demp sey also for their respective eights. When time (6.30) was called, fire wickets of Mataraws's second innings were lost for 18 runs, Gonnall having taken 4 wickets (or seven. This wound up a very pleasant day's amusement, the match of course having to be settled in tavonr of Matarawa on the first innings, as their second was not completed. Tea, sandwiches, (So., were liberally supplied on the ground, and some good bnmoured " chaff ” was occasionally indulged in, and altogether it was of those enjoyable little meetings not easily to be effaced from the memory. Mr H. Jackson umpired (or Matarawa, and Mr Uodder (or Dalefield. The following are the ecorea :
