Annual District Meeting of Oddfellows, M.U.

On Thursday afternoon the Aminat District Meeting of the above Cider was held at I’Vfitherston. An excellent dinner was provided by Mr Smith, ol the Empire hotel, •Uei wkieh (he member* awembled for butt;

□ess. PPGM D. F. Loasby oaoupied the chair ; PG I. Clark, DGM, and PG E. Bannister, CS, were also present. All the Lodges in the district were represented by deputies. The Grand Master delivered an interesting address, during which he stated that 85 new members had been enrolled during the year, and that upon the books of the ▼arions Lodges in the district, there were just upon 900 members. £9BO had been paid daring the same period from the sick fund ; the tnneral donations amounted to £265. The total funds were close upon £19,000. The various Lodges were progressing. PG Isaac Clark (Antipodean Lodge) was elected Grand Master for the ensuing year; PG John Furness (Britannia Lodge), Deputy Grand Master ; PG Edwin Bannister retaining the office of Corresponding Secretary; PPGM Thomas McKenzie was re-elected Returning Officer ; PG Robert Smith, Examining Officer and Warden ; and PG Mark Mazton was appointed as Auditor. The next half-yearly district meeting was appointed to he held at the Loyal Britannia Lodge, Wellington. PG Isaac Clark was duly installed into the office of Grand Master by PPGM J. Smith, and a vote of thanks was given to the retiring dis> trict officers. It was unanimously resolved to present PPGM D. P. Loasby with a testimonial for tbe zeal and attention he had displayed during tbe past year in the affairs of tbe Lodges. A vote of thanks was given to members of the Loyal Unity Lodge for the excellent manner in which they had entertained the deputies at the annual district meeting. At the close of the business a purple lecture waa held, when PG J. Hodder, PG E. Eagle, and PG C. Bowles, of the Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge; PG J. Dockery and PG J. Maguire, of tbe Loyal Greytown Lodge, and PG Mark Mazton, of the Loyal Antipodean Lodge were duly admitted to this degree.
