Entertainment at Greytown.
On Friday and Saturday nights the South Wairarapa Amateur Dramatic Society appeared at the Town Hall, Greytown. The audience on Friday evening was very poor, owiug to the inclemency of the weather. The first piece presented was “ Next of Kin,” with the following caste ; —Tubal Todd, au aged invalid, Mr J. Barnard ; Jack Todd, an impulsive young fellow. Mr Campbell ; Eliza Todd and Daniel Todd, cousins to Tubal, Mr Webster ; Mr Vincent, a lawyer, Mr Lawson ; Charity Beckett, an Irish housekeeper, Lady amateur; Jiles Jocket, a man servant, Mr Phillips. This part of the programme having been disposed of, the laugh* able faroe of “ The Turned Heads ” was presented. It abounds in witticisms, which the audience thoroughly enjoyed. Caste: Mr Fitzflggins, Mr Phillips ; Ferdinand, his son, Mr Barnard ; Dr Mulgent, Mr Campbell ; Dick, his servant, Mr Webster ; Dampley, Mr Muir ; Laura, Lady amateur. Taking it all altogether the effort of the company was a good one, and the audience appeared to relish the way in which the characters were sustained.
On Saturday evening the company opened the Hall again, but the weather was at cross purpose with them, and it was announced that those present would receive their money back at the doors, and if they liked to remain the company would go through a dress rehearsal. Ibis was received with applause, and “ Chiselling was gone through. The piece was immensely enioyed, and following it the company appeared in " Borrowed Plumes.” We are not using flattery when we say that the pieces of Saturday evening were acted in a better manner than we have seen similar pieces performed by visiting companies. Those who braved the wet were well repaid for the whole of the company went through the rehearsal most creditably. We hope the public will attend this evening in good numbers. They will enjoy the entertainment immensely. The reading of the conundrums was postponed until this evening.
