School Picnics.

GREYTOWN. The annaal picnic in connection with the Grey town Public School, was held on Saturday in Mr Jones’ paddock, Matarawa, the young folk leaving by train between g and 9 in the morning. The day was pleasantly spent in all sorts of games and fun, and there was no lack of the good things usually provided on such occasions. Mr Forritt, Miss Hrig’n and Miss York (teachers), and Messrs Trotter, Udy, Hillier, Cuff, and Rev Western (members of School Committee), were on the ground, and did their best for the enjoyment of the children. Several ladies also helped at the tables, and deserve the thanks of the Committee for the way in which they worked. Altogether, to those who were able to be present, the day was most enjoyably spent, but considerable disappointment was felt by many parents that there was no possibility ol getting to tbe ground towards the afternoon, when home duties and business was over. There was about 200 children present, with a number of Greytown and Matarawa friends. FEATHERSTON. The children attending tbe Featberstou Public School, with parents and friends, had a most attractive and enjoyable picnic on Anniversary Day, on tbe land leased by Mr H. Bunny from the Domain Board. There was about 200 children and the same number of adults present. The committee, composed ol Messrs A. Matthews, B. Riddick, R Barton, Murray Jackson, Harry Wilkinson, and W. Book (secretary) ananged matters admirably, and everybody appeared thoroughly well pleased with the day’s outing. Great praise is also due to the ladies who worked with such zeal for tbe good ol all. Ope of the moat interesting events of the day' was the distribution of school prizes, Mr Bunny, the Chairman of the School Committee, presenting them. Cheers were then given for Mr Bunny and Mr Bunting, the headmaster. In the evening a soiree was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, which was largely attended, Mr Parker presiding at the piano.
