An Earthquake Year.

A NEW COMET PREDICTED Captain Delauney, who has been the accepted weather prophet in France ever since he predicted the Java earthquake, has just published his meteorological almanack for 1886 ; and unless he is all wrong in his calculations, this year promises to be an annee terrible, and that not merely from the meteological, but also from the political point of view. For, according to M. Delauney, there is an intimate connection between cosmic and political disturbances. He confidently predicts several uncommonly destructive earthquakes in the course of this year. Our planet is, be has ascertained, exceptionally troubled in this this way every ;a8 years, and the year 1886 completes one of these cycles. He further expects that Saturn will make us a present of a portion of his ring in the shape of a comet which will probably outshine the great comet of 1858. The ,'subterranean disturbance will continue for some nine months out of the twelve. May will be the worst month of the twelve, the period of maximum perturbation being three days of that once merry month.
