Carterton School.
The annual children s treat and prize distribution took place on Friday. The sports in connection were held in Mr Carter’s paddock in the afternoon, after which the girls were first entertained at a tea in the Old Town Hall, provided by the joint contribu tions of the committee and parents of the scholars. Alter the girls had been refreshed with a substantial repast, the boys were invited to satisfy their appetites, for which they were quite prepared by their evident application toward that object, as tea, cake and saadwitohes disappeared in a remarkably speedy manner, and the proceedings altogether were very enjoyable. The following is a list of the prize takers ; Infant Class—Charles Diamond, Thomas Callister, John Stevens. Knitting prize.—Ellen Davies. Mr Samuel!, the head master called the roll of prize takers, and the Chairman of the Committee, Mr B. Fairbrother presented the prizes, at the same time impressing upon the children the necessity of regular attendance. Messrs W. Moore, G. F. Dempsey and Harper superintended the sports.
